Going green with construction

One of the newest trends in construction is building with environmental concerns in mind.  One very commonly used construction material that can be more environmentally friendly is insulation.

Proper installation is one of the direst green issues when it comes to construction.  When a home has the proper insulation the amount of energy waste in the home will be greatly reduced.  A properly insulated home will hold in the heat and keep up the cold.  Asbestos and vermiculite which is a compound containing asbestos have widely been used in the materials that insulate homes.  These materials were very efficient and easy to install however there are also highly toxic.  They remain popular partly because of the ease of installation and the fact that they were

The overuse of asbestos insulation is a very good reason for the movement toward greener construction materials.  The whole concept behind green construction is not about tradeoffs.  You do not want to pollute the water in order for factories to be able to produce more goods.  And you certainly don’t want to risk your health just to have inexpensive insulation no matter how well it prevents fires or how efficient it is to install.

There are alternative options when it comes insulation and when these alternatives are explored in debts and is often found that they’re better and less expensive anyway.  When it comes to insulation one good alternative is an insulation made from recycled cotton.  This type of insulation is created from 100% recyclable cotton and is non-toxic.  The process of manufacturing uses less energy than the manufacturing of fiberglass insulation as well as asbestos products.

Another very earth-friendly alternative for insulation is vegetable oil base polyurethane.  This type of insulation is sprayed into the areas of a home that require insulation and when it comes in contact with the arid expanse filling the space completely.  This allows for no extra tight fit that will result in even better installation and more toxic insulations.  This type of insulation is free of the toxic materials that are put into asbestos and fiberglass style insulation.

Proper insulation is a major issue when it comes to going green in construction.  Being able to conserve heat and reduce the amount of wasted energy are very important issues.  The one thing that everyone needs to remember is that green construction is not about trading off one hazard for another nor is it about failing to realize the impact on other environmental areas.  Insulation is an incredibly important part of the being able to make construction greener so you need to make sure that you’re selecting environmentally save insulation for your construction projects.  The best news about this is that more often than not environmentally friendly insulation choices are not only safer but many times a much more affordable.

Co-op to become the largest green energy supplier?

All Co-op businesses are not necessarily green or ethical but they all place a lot of emphasis on ethical aspect of whatever business they are in which at the moment includes Banking, Pharmacies, Funeral services, food store and other businesses.

It is hoped an entry into the energy market by a business with strong ethical side to trading such as the Co-op will bring some freshness to the energy market where the current big six suppliers (Scottish Power, nPower, EDF Energy, Scottish and Southern Energy, E.ON, British Gas) who has been accused of non ethical business practises ranging from artificially inflated pricing, high-pressure doorstep selling.

The large membership base of the co-operative group will help is make a big entrance into the energy supply market if its given the license to become an energy supplier by Ofgem.
